The Nature of Photography
I approach photography in a similar way to drawing. Exploring its immediacy and an intuitive process, I often use photographs to remove the presents of "place" and create a newly abstracted space for the viewer to move in. Through composition, emphasizing texture, and editing I try to reference the mark-making that is inherent in drawing.
By selecting natural forms as subject, I allow myself to explore movement, space, and composition that is present in our environment. These aesthetic elements often have a physiological reaction within the viewer.
I do not try to capture a moment. Nor am I looking for beauty in the mundane. Through image making I am able to create new moments between myself and the image, and more importantly, the viewer and the image. What happens there is immediate and the focus of this work.
