Antlers, metal and acrylic.
A race of white deer collect forgotten thoughts and memories in the thread between their antlers. A greedy king sets out to capture one but when he brings it into daylight the deer turns to gold and the thread he took and tied to his finger suddenly begins erasing his memories. By the time he cuts off his finger to free himself, all he can remember is that he is king. Years later his son creates a Chain-of-Offices to remind himself of his father's shortcomings.
